About Us

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) provides statewide leadership and oversight for management of government information and communications technology.

Our mission is to provide technology leadership, solutions, and value to Texas state government, education, and local government entities to enable and facilitate the fulfillment of their core missions. We facilitate and support government use of information and communications technology — everything from computers, Internet service, data storage, online applications, and much more — so that health, education, transportation, and other services are delivered to the citizens and businesses of Texas efficiently, economically, and innovatively.

The agency has received national, and even international, recognition for expanding and enhancing public sector service delivery through technology, and is the home of several award-winning programs. These programs include

Texas.gov, the official website of the State of Texas, provides portal and payment services for Texas state agencies and eligible local governmental organizations, enabling them to cost-effectively conduct online business with their customers.
The Cooperative Contracts IT purchasing program, which saved state agencies $364 million on IT purchases in FY2017; and
The Data Center Services program, which was recognized in 2014 for its innovative governance model that gives our DCS customers a seat at the decision-making table for consolidated technology in two reliable, state-of-the-art, and secure data centers operated via a multi-vendor model.
